How I have progressed from AS to A2

From 2011 to 2012 we was assigned to create a film opening. this was the first time we used the technology available, such as the flip cameras, Final Cut Express and Garage Band. We had a brief guideline of how to use these programs and the flip cameras was very straight forward.

For the A2 project we was assigned to create a film trailer and two ancillary texts. We chose to make a magazine cover and poster for the film. We had the same access to the technology used for our AS project, which came to an advantage as we was able to expand our expertise and experiment more with the programs.

We was supplied with new cameras of a higher standard which allowed us to get a clearer shot and zoom in closer in awkward settings. In comparison to the AS project, we was very limited to what we could film, the picture was blurry plus the picture did not fill the whole screen, whereas the clips filmed with the newer cameras are of a better quality, and fills the screen without any black edges. This provides a more cinematic effect on the audience when they view the film trailer. The new camera also took pictures, whereas the flip camera did not. Luckily it did not take pictures though, otherwise the finished product wouldn't be of a good quality. The improvement of cameras had an effect on me because it  developed more opportunity for me and my group members to be more creative with our trailer and ancillary texts.

On Final Cut Express, we found it hard to adapt to the program while producing the film opening, and underestimated how long it would take to edit the footage. Meaning that we had to slightly pick up our working pace to meet the deadline. This came to a disadvantage because we was not able to experiment as much with the program and what it offered. For the A2 project, we was a lot more aware of how much time it takes to edit the footage. By leaving enough time to experiment with the program, we was able to adjust the sound on the trailer and the diegetic sound so it suited to how we wanted. Leaving enough time to experiment for the trailer ; has had an effect on my ability to work on my knowledge of the program to get the most out of it as we possibly could.

For the A2 project, we had to create our own music and sound. Meaning we had no choice but to use Garage Band. No one had the experience to actually create a tune on the program, however I enjoyed this very much which meant I was more motivated to work towards developing the music. I was able match the tempo of the music to the trailer which helps to influence the audiences emotions. for example, the tempo would quicken as action is apparent in the trailer, this will build tension.
For our first project, we only used the program vaguely, we used the program to deepen a voice to give a more manly and dominating effect. This hopefully had an effect on the audience by making them realise how intimidating the man shouting is.

While producing our first product, we lacked the amount of variety shots which made it hard for us to make the storyline clear to the audience. To improve next time for the A2 project, we spent more time thinking of what shots we could do. A lot of the shots we did not need however we wanted to save time by doing a lot of the shots in one go. There was a var By having a variety of shots, we had more to choose from. It it important to use a varity of shots such as experimenting with angles and the camera movements. This time we focused on the panning movement and either a high or low angle shot. This helped to show power between the characters in the film trailer.
