evaluation part 4: What media technologies did you use in the construction of the trailer, poster and magazine cover?

Trailer:
This year we were supplied with two new cameras for my group. This meant that we had to adapt to these cameras quickly and try to find out what features it has; which will allow us to be more creative with the effects. In comparison to the cameras we had last year, these used memory cards which made it a lot easier to upload footage, whereas the older cameras had tapes which means a lead had to connect the cameras to the computers in order to transfer the footage- this took much longer.

On the Apple MACs we were supplied with a vairty of programs, yet we chose to use Final cut express  and Garage Band. Both of these allowed us to create and edit footage and the music. Luckily, we used Final cut express last year so are more capable of what we can use it for. The progam permitted us to view the layout of the film trailer easily- by breaking the clips into blockes. The program also brought all the footages together, and everntually add in the sound. Whether it was diegetic or non-diegetic, we was able to syncronise the sound to the footage, however this was fiddely.
Garage Band is a program we used to create the background music. It is important that we didnt use copywritten tracks, so we created our own to how we wanted it. This way we wouldnt need to create the footage to a sound track. The program gave us the power to slow down our music as well as change the pitch.

It was also handy that three of us can drive and have access to a car. This is because we used a tracking technique in the trailer which was used to show the setting of the film was in the woods. Cars was also used to portray that the three protagonist girls were on a road trip to the woods, we was also able to track behind on the road. It is also handy that we could drive as it made us more felxable with the dates we could film.

Magazine:
Even though we were provided with new cameras, we also had access to a camera that gave a clearer still shot. We used this camera to take the pictures for the magazine and poster.

On the Apple MACs we used Photoshop. This program helped us to edit any unwanted parts of the picture we didnt want. For example, the metal container in the background had a lot of graffiti on it. At first we wanted this to help portray it was abandoned. However, it got confused with the font on the page. So we minimised the scratches.

Poster
As mentioned previously, we had the privilage to use a camera that provided a better picture quality. We used this to take all the pictures for the poster.

We also used Fireworks and Photoshop. These programs allowed us to adjust the lighting which got rid of the blocked effect at the edge of the photo. We thought the block shape of the photo would be a problem, however by adjusting the lighting around the edge gave a darkening and scary effect. The light in the middle of the photo also helped the audience to focuse more on the main character.
