Film poster research

Purpose of a film poster...
A film poster has the certain investment responsibility to engage the audience and encourage them to watch the film. It informs the audience about the release date, who is in the film and the picutre helps the portray what the genre is.

What makes a good poste?
1. Attention: AIDA is a simple marketing technique that is used in most advertisments. It stands for Attention, Interest, Desire and Action. The most important step is to grab the audiences attention, which will encourage them to want to know more about the film.

2.Showing without telling (iconography): Film posters are most effective when they are iconic. These two very alike posters portray the theme of the films, and attract attention at once. Both of these posters suggest a sex appeal, contrast and spacing at once which will draw the audiences attention.

3. Interest: It is hard to find a way to advertise some films in a poster without gving too much away. Unlike "True Blood" and "Jennifer's Body", "Inception" needs to give more away to help the audience understand what the theme of the film is and want them to find out more. It is Many posters use images that help to put the reader in the scene of the film, which helps to create incentive and tenstion.
This Inception poster is a great example of this strategy, it puts the audience in the scene which makes them want to see how it became like that and what happens after.

4.Style: It is important that films have a constant marketing style. Usually ones with a bold font help to attract the audience more, however the layout of the poster is vital as well. Watchmen is a perfect example of a rememberable style. Reflecting on the other features that make a good poster, it does not give too much away and gives the audience the effect that they are part of the scene in the film. The font has been adjusted into the picture by tlting the the font- which helps to give an action effect.

5. Informative: It is like a tradiation that all further details of the film such as the film release date and actors in the film are at the bottom of the poster.
